FAQ
What do you do?

Our main area of interest is custom electrode construction for vacuum devices and experimental work with novel solar cell designs. Although understandably the mass market is for higher efficiency and lower production cost of conventional cells, we have made progress with conversion of parts of the spectrum away from visible light. At this point in time, research is in its infancy however we will be looking to approach companies towards the end of 2017, beginning of 2018 with a view to forming a joint enterprise involving our technology and the manufacturing plant of a third party.

Future work is planned for alternative energy storage devices (specialist cells for batteries) however research is in its infancy at this time.

How do we open an account?

Our technology in the R&D lab is advanced, our method of dealing with the outside world however is simple. If you would like an account, contact us by telephone, email or fax and tell us a little about what we can do for you. If we are able to help, we can create an account for you there and then. Very simple and no silly passwords with at least one upper case letter and a digit to remember. Except for the most basic of projects, we would expect to meet you in person to discuss exactly what your objectives are and any specifics in how we are to achieve them.

What chemicals do you supply?

We do not supply plain chemicals - we are not a chemical supply company. We supply equipment which has been treated with chemicals (eg: vacuum deposition of difficult metals on the inside of glassware) and custom electrodes which contain elements designed to increase electron emission, decrease wear and so on. We may also prepare small amounts of custom synthesized chemicals specific to a piece of hardware that we are making. For example, we produced a dual chamber zinc / beryllium device for a company so that with the addition of an alpha source, they can generate fast neutrons and with deuterium oxide, thermal neutrons too. As deuterium oxide is difficult to obtain cost effectively in small amounts, we sold them the a small amount.

Do you supply individuals?

Sadly no. Not even the deuterium oxide mentioned above which fusor builders keep enquiring about. We do not have the resources to deal with orders from members of the public so we are unable to help with chemical supply. If you are a true enthusiast however investigate some of the forums online where you will find other like minded individuals and possibly other organisation that can supply. For some glassware and a good range of electronics at a sensible price, try Rapid Electronics - they will supply to individuals and if your order is at least £30, there is no handling or postal charges. Some of the fusor groups have found sources of deuterium oxide and can sometimes provide it to members for a modest cost. A few ml should be a lifetime supply for most people but you will need to follow instructions carefully on how to use tiny scale electrolysis (U shaped Test tubes are useful here) in order to produce the gas without wastage.

What is your lead time?

This depends partly on the task in hand, partly on whether we need to outsource equipment (for example custom glass blowing) and partly your budget. Although we do not set silly prices for rush jobs, it is certainly true that it is easier to encourage staff to work overtime and external companies to work faster if their reward is higher. For most projects we would expect a turn around time of around 10 - 14 days. Very simple requirements can sometimes be handled same day.

Do you supply overseas?

Yes of course. You need to be aware though that if our work for you involves glassware or hazardous chemicals, then safe handling and carriage may be expensive. We charge exactly what we are charged for couriers - and you are most welcome to arrange your own to collect from our premises if you prefer. For custom doped electrodes with most compounds, export is straightforward. Thoriated electrodes may need prior clearance if they contain more than 4% thorium. In any even we cannot supply items without packaging them to ensure exposure at package surface does not exceed 500 uRem / 5 uSv/hour.

How long have you been running?

We have been running informally for many years doing research work for some private contacts simply in a consultancy capacity. Only very recently have we acquired premises and facilities to enable us to produce prototype physical products

Can you handle production runs?

Not really, no. Our field of expertise is making things work often despite unusual challenges. We are not geared up for mass production, nor would we find that kind of work mentally stimulating. We will of course work with clients to help them find reliable third parties who are able to handle this requirement.

You didn't answer my question!

Well we do get rather a lot of them - the ones above tend to crop up from time to time though. If you would like to ask a question that we have not yet answered, please email, telephone us or fax us - and we will get right back to you. Please no more requests to supply individuals though. Our insurance company prohibits it.
